Cakes!

There have been a few recently ... this is a good thing although the diet will need to start sometime soon!
First was my sister's Silver Wedding Anniversary when younger nephew did the baking bit and I did the decorating bit:

Then I spent a lovely couple of days in what turned out to real summer weather (in the Highlands in March!) with friends - so we needed a summery  cake with strawberries and cream!

And of course now it's Easter - so bunny rabbits and eggs and chocolate was required. I'm very pleased how this one came out - large and fluffly for a wheat free cake!

So that's us sorted then, though the rabbits didn't last long! Happy Easter everyone.

Knitting again! And cake too.

Yay! The knitting embargo has been lifted ... at last. As long as I now knit with my new correct posture .... and of course not for too long without a break (Hmm). The arm is still a bit stiff but nothing like what it was. So a wee catch up - I only did half the Belinda as the variegated kidsilk I got to do the other half didn't really match in the end. So it's a scarf instead and lovely and soft too. Then it was on to finish the waistcoat ... the one that I thought about ripping out at least 4 times but persuaded myself to keep going. Bad move. The construction is ingenius but it only fits a beanpole which I am not. After a session spent pinning it onto my sister to see what could be done it got ripped out. Much to the joy of my nephew who got to do some of the ripping out. I was down at my sister's and we'd planned to watch Harry Potter that night so it was a quick Ravelry pattern search to see what I could find... and I found this great looking shawl which I thought would suit the wool. Of course the pattern was in Danish. But luckily enough I found an English translation so started off the lace edging. And after faffing around with needle sizes and exactly what to do with the yarn overs I think this is going to be good!

And the cake. Well I decided to use my Tesco vouchers to get Good Food magazine - new recipes to try out, hopefully healthy eating etc etc. So of course I made a cake! Kind of a lemon drizzle cake with potatoes and gluten free flour. And it worked.

A good Easter!

Well the sun shone, eggs were painted and rolled, cakes were baked and eaten, the nephews ate the chocolate while the grown ups were good and didn't, little chicks and bunnies got found in the garden and lots of pics were taken! So, definitely a good Easter! I've been knitting away on the Rowan Cotton Jeans and have pretty much finished the Urchin - as a waistcoat though I think as I'm not that fond of short sleeved cardis. Just got the button band and finishing to do. I wore the striped Buckland cardi on Saturday which was good - but the cotton has stretched quite a bit on the picked up button band edging so think I might need to frog and redo that bit. Bother! I hate doing button bands ...

And eek - where did March go?

Getting to be a habit this once a month blogging, but it's good that life is busy. I had great fun at easter, painting and rolling and hunting for eggs, and eating the choccie ones of course.

And I've a few more knitted bits and bobs -getting into these wristlet/warmers, so practical and colourful and fun. I love this soft merino and possum blend from New Zealand in particular.

More minibooks!

I've getting addicted to these I fear ... and have made two recently (both with bought books). The first one now houses all those lovely cross stitch and hand made Easter cards my family have made over the years, and I just couldn't throw them out, especially the cross stitch ones.

Well I liked doing this one so much I had to do another one today! It seems a great way of using lots of photos, especially if they tell a story. So I decided to tell the tale of the felt bowls from April when I was down looking after my sisters' kids.

Hhhmm, wonder what to do next??

Hope everyone's having a good Easter - piccie of my eggs and the lovely card my Mum made for me just to make me feel more springlike on a not very sunny day really (but it's been nice most of the week so can't complain!) I feel very grown up as I kept my eggs untouched til this morning, and even had a real egg for brekkie first before I started on the chocolate ones. I'm off down to my sister's tomorrow for a week of mayhem with her kids while she goes off on holiday with her hubbie, so that should be fun! And of course there's loads of things I should be doing to get organised before I go but feel like catching up on some scrapping stuff as well. I haven't started on the fab Design Collective classes yet, or done last Sunday's art journal card yet either, so lots to choose from! And uks is starting the build up to the next cyber crop - the Madhatter's Tea Party! Hope you all have a lovely day,

Suddenly it's spring!

That's what it feels like today anyway, so let's hope it continues.... and in a springlike, almost Easter mood I did this week's UKS challenge which was to use a spring theme, rabbits or lambs, daffodils and 3 patterned papers. Well no daffs I'm afraid, but I did have these piccies of decorations I brought back from Germany one Easter and we put up in the hallway. So an Easter layout, while I look at the sunshine and dream of chocolate eggs!
